Overview

Step up to the next generation of buggy — full 4WD with an electronic console, built for the Dominican off-road. Blast through muddy backroad trails, taste a country plantation, and cool off in a hidden underground swimming hole. The off-road's calling.

Same Mud, Better Machine

What if we handed you a genuine all-terrain buggy and turned you loose on Punta Cana's back roads? You'd say yes, right?

Good. Then start your engines — in style.

There are plenty of buggy tours in Punta Cana, but this is the original in the Macao area, run by the buggy experts on the best off-road route around. The difference here is the machine: these are next-generation VIP buggies — full 4WD with an electronic console — a real step up that shrugs off the Dominican off-road with speed to spare.

It's a pure back-road run with two stops. Here's how it plays out.

From our remote ranch in Macao, settle into your VIP buggy and roar out into open farmland — past palm groves and tobacco fields, with the Oriental Mountain Range hazy in the distance. The narrow country lanes are riddled with deep pools of mud, and you'll go crashing through them again and again. You'll try to dodge the dirt at first. You'll give in. Everybody does.

We call them VIP buggies, but they still aren't for the prissy.

Stop 1 — The Plantation. Pull in at a classic country farm for a quick taste of the Dominican Republic's signature crops: cacao, coffee, tobacco, and Mamajuana, the local spiced-rum "love potion." And yes — you can drink and drive here. We won't tell.

Back onto the rough stuff, and then…

Stop 2 — The Cave. Drop down into a cool, dark cavern with a calm underground lagoon. Take a dip and rinse off some of that muck.

The short version: blast through open farmland, tour a country plantation, and swim in the underground waters of a natural cave.

On the fence? Don't be — buggies book out fast in Punta Cana, so lock yours in now.

“Simply amazing!! I have to admit I was nervous at first, but the guides were there every step of the way. I was so happy I got to experience DR outside of our resort. I would recommend this time and time again!”

“We started out by being picked up at our hotel in an open safari truck and the driver was right on time and the weather was perfect! We experienced the "wild and crazy" driving of the Dominican population, they had us gasping at the narrow misses. When we arrived at the Macao Buggies site, we were given instructions on what to do and what not to do and asked if we wanted to upgrade to the bigger buggies and we were able to say no without being pressured. We recommend the smaller size. More mud, more fun! The tour guides took us through mud holes, pot holes and bumps. It is about the mud after all. They took us to the coffee/cocoa and cigar farm and were given a demonstration and samples of the local product…Mamajuana – Best rum anywhere! The vendors are there, but again we were able to say no without being pressured, we did purchase the rum and coffee beans, but remember this is their livelihood and depend on tourists, so they can be a little pushy. We ended the trip at the Macao beach where we got to dip in the ocean and clean some of the mud off. The trip was a ton of fun, we tried to splash as much mud as we could and as many other buggies as we could! We would recommend this to anyone, young or old. Just make it fun!”

“It began with the cool designed open air truck, setting the tone for what's to come. The excursion was well planned out like the precision of a Navy Seal Mission and we were the heroes. We experienced the real country side, culture, and beautiful beaches. The moments were also captured on video and film. We simply had a Blast!”
